OMAHA -- The Beatrice softball team had to rally for two runs in the seventh inning to beat Omaha Gross Thursday night in Omaha.

The Lady O were trailing 5-4 entering the final inning when Whitney Schwisow reached on an error with one out. Addie Barnard then walked to put runners at first and second.

Ashton Sandman’s RBI single tied the game and an error later in the inning allowed Barnard to score, giving the Lady O a 6-5 lead.

Barnard then retired Omaha Gross in order in the bottom of the seventh, preserving the win for Beatrice.

The game looked like it would be all Beatrice early on. They immediately took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Whitney Schwisow tripled and then scored on Barnard’s RBI single.

Beatrice then tacked on another run in the second inning. Tavia Hausman led off with a walk but was thrown out trying to advance to third on Reganne Henning’s bunt single.

Bailey Green’s RBI double scored Henning, making it 2-0.

The Lady O then doubled that lead in third inning. Whitney Schwisow singled and scored on Barnard’s two-run home run, making it 4-0.

Omaha Gross roared back in the bottom of the third. They scored five runs off four hits, including a home run.

That would be the last of the game’s scoring until the dramatic seventh inning comeback by Beatrice.

The Beatrice offense had 10 hits in the game. Schwisow had a triple, two singles and three runs scored while Barnard had a home run, a single, three RBI’s and two runs scored.

Sandman had two singles while Green had a double and Aden and Henning had a single each.

Green pitched three innings and gave up five earned runs on five hits while striking out one and walking one. Barnard pitched four innings, giving up no runs on no hits while striking out eight and walking none.

Beatrice is now 11-2 on the season and will be in action again on Saturday when they travel to Omaha for a triangular with Omaha Duchesne and South Sioux City.

Beatrice then travels to York on Tuesday before hosting Seward on Thursday.
