‘Hockey Night’ Host Cornell Dies
LONDON, Ontario (AP) _ Ward Cornell, the host of ``Hockey Night in Canada″ for 13 years, has died at age 75.
Cornell died Saturday in a hospital in Uxbridge, northeast of Toronto.
He became the host of ``Hockey Night in Canada″ in 1959 and held the job until 1972, when Dave Hodge replaced him.
Ward then represented the Ontario government as agent general in London until 1978. He returned to Canada in 1980 and was Ontario’s deputy minister for culture and recreation as well as deputy housing minister.
Ward is survived by his wife, Georgina, their four children and five grandchildren. A funeral will be held Thursday.
