Vanderbilt police officer arrested in gunshots at apartment
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Police say a Vanderbilt University police officer was arrested and resigned after gunfire at his apartment, where he provided underage guests alcohol.
Nashville police say they went to Officer Jordan Thompson’s apartment early Thursday after someone reported a bullet almost hitting her through her ceiling.
Police say 23-year-old Thompson, a pistol in his waistband, was in the apartment above with 19-year-old Vanderbilt Community Service Officer Chase Whetstone and two 19-year-old women. Thompson admitted supplying alcohol.
Police say after the group denied gunshots, officers found a bullet hole. Thompson claimed Whetstone accidentally fired into the floor and gave Thompson the gun. Thompson said while trying to clear the gun, it shot his bedroom wall.
Thompson is charged with lying to police, gun possession under the influence, and letting underage people drink.
The others face charges.
