BHS swimmers ready for state
The Beatrice swimming team is set to take to the pool Friday in the NSAA State Swimming Meet at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln.
The Beatrice coop team, which consists of swimmers from Beatrice, Norris, Fairbury and Freeman, had several relay teams qualify for the meet as well as a few individuals.
The girls 400-freestyle relay team of Maddy Wagner, Makalah Scheele, Mikasa Lierman and Mikwena Lierman qualified as did the 200-freestyle relay team and the 200-medley relay team which consists of the same swimmers.
Serving as alternates on those teams will be Crystal Craft, Josi Mans and Morgan McCUbbin.
All three boys relay teams also qualified for Friday’s state meet. Those teams consists of Cullen Papenhagen, Colton Starck, Cameron Knepp, RJ Suey and Jacob Mason. Joe Wright will serve as an alternate.
Individuals to qualify for the state meet include Colton Starck in the 50-freestyle, Mikwena Lierman in the 50-freestyle and Maya Moran in both the 100-freestyle and 100-backstroke.
Swimmers from Beatrice include Scheele, Moran, Wright, McCubbin and Knepp; swimmers from Norris include Wagner, Papenhagen, Mason and Craft; Swimmers from Fairbury include Suey, Starck, Makwena and Mikasa Lierman and Josi Mans.
The NSAA State Championships will start at 9 a.m. Friday with the girls preliminaries. The boys preliminaries will start at 2 p.m.
The order of events is the 200-medley relay, 200-freestyle, 200-IM, 100-fly, 100-free, 500-free, 200-free relay, 100-back, 100-breast and the 400-free relay.
If any of the Beatrice swimmers reach the finals, those will be swam on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. The finals will be broadcast on NET.
State diving took place on Thursday, but Beatrice had no divers qualify for state.
There is just one class in swimming and diving, so Beatrice will be swimming against all the schools in the state that offer swimming and diving.
