WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — An off-duty Providence police officer struck a Rhode Island State Police cruiser with a trooper and two dogs inside, according to state police.

State Police Major Christopher Dicomitis did not immediately identify the driver, the Providence Journal reported on Thursday.

Trooper Dan O’Neil was stopped on the side of the road in Warwick at the time of the crash. The off-duty officer struck O’Neil on Tuesday night.

Dicomitis said O’Neil suffered minor injuries but was released from the hospital. The two police dogs, K-9 Ruby and K-9 Koda, are OK.

Providence Police Commissioner Steven Pare said the city department is cooperating with state police and is conducting its own review of the crash.
