Man approved to turn historic mansion into inn

BURKE, Vt. (AP) — A California man who bought a historic Vermont mansion for $1.8 million has received town approval to turn the mansion into an inn.

The Caledonian-Record reports owner James Crone says he plans to restore Burklyn Hall, and his family members will serve as caretakers of the 18 guest room inn.

Burklyn Hall is located partly in the towns of Burke and Lyndon, and the proposal required both towns’ approval.

The mansion was built by New York City businessman Elmer Darling in 1908. It was originally marketed at $4.5 million.

Crone says the property will be open for weddings and corporate events, and he is in the process of getting state fire marshal approval.

Crone says he has found people to be welcoming and excited about the project.
