Eugene police have arrested a man who they say robbed at least two local businesses at knifepoint on Thursday.

John Edward Flynn, 28, was arrested Thursday after he tried to rob Radar Toys at 3061 W. 11th Avenue just after 4 p.m. Thursday., police said. When Flynn entered the store, he demanded money from an employee who ran to the back of the business, prompting Flynn to leave.

Flynn successfully robbed a Subway Restaurant at 2848 Willamette St. at knifepoint around 7:30 p.m. the same day, police said. He left the Subway with cash, according to Eugene police spokesman John Hankemeier.

Following both incidents, Flynn was seen fleeing the locations in a dark-colored Mercury Mountaineer with Utah license plates, police said.

Police later located Flynn in the Mercury at the Sequential gas station at 1695 West 18th Ave. Police searched the car and discovered several knives, one of which matched the description of a knife used in the robberies, Hankemeier said.

Flynn was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree robbery and taken to the Lane County Jail.

Police are still investigating two more armed robberies that took place on Willamette Street on Feb. 11 and Feb. 12 in the College Hill area to determine whether they are connected to Thursday’s robberies.

Late Sunday afternoon, Eugene police were called to the GNC store at 2866 Willamette St. At 3:49 p.m., an employee reported being robbed at knifepoint by a man who demanded money. The suspect left with cash and was last seen running northeast, police said.

At 9:17 p.m. Monday, the Jimmy John’s restaurant at 2502 Willamette St. was robbed at knifepoint. The suspect stole cash and ran west, police said.

The suspect in both incidents was described as 6-foot-3 to 6-foot-5 inches tall, with a thin build, a dark hooded sweatshirt with a hood pulled around the face, and a red T-shirt underneath.
