Cane Island hosts inaugural Reign Over Cancer Walk Feb. 25

February 15, 2018 GMT

The GEST Foundation, founded by Katy residents Michelle and Aaron Perzan to raise funds for those undergoing cancer treatment, will host the inaugural Reign Over Cancer Walk on Sunday, Feb. 25, in the Katy master-planned community of Cane Island.

The one-mile walk will begin in the Cane Island Amenity Village, 2100 Cane Island Parkway, starting at 2 p.m. followed by free food and drinks, kids’ games, and family-friendly activities.

Event day registration and packet pickup will begin at 12:45 p.m.

To register, go to www.gestfoundation.org. Registration is $30 for walkers ages 13 and up through Feb. 24 and increases to $35 on event day. Registration for walkers ages 4-12 is $20 through event day. Walkers under the age of 4 are free. The registration fee includes entry to the walk, admission to the after-party, and an event T-shirt. Virtual Walker registrations are available for those who can’t attend but still wish to support the GEST Foundation and its mission. Sponsorships also are available.

Funds raised by the GEST Foundation provide grants to cancer patients to purchase services while recovering from surgery, including grocery delivery, transportation to and from post-op medical appointments and treatments, and personal caregivers to assist with daily activities.

Founder Michelle Perzan created GEST Foundation, Inc. in honor of her mother Gemma (G), father Elmer and grandmother Elsie (E), and brother Steven (S) who all died from various types of cancer. The “T” in GEST represents Michelle’s maiden name, Trakalo.

A breast cancer survivor, Michelle is the author of “Strength in My Storm: Faith and Breast Cancer.”

To reach Cane Island, take the Cane Island Parkway exit off Interstate 10. Head north on Cane Island Parkway and take the roadway directly into the community of new homes.
