Oklahoma judge facing felony charge over unpaid income taxes

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma County judge indicted for failing to file state income tax returns is now facing a felony charge.

The Oklahoman reports District Judge Kendra Coleman was charged Monday with a felony count of failure to file a state income tax return on her 2017 state taxes.

The 43-year-old Coleman was indicted by the state’s multicounty grand jury last month on four misdemeanor counts of failure to pay taxes on her income from 2015 to 2018. Prosecutors on Monday asked a specially assigned Payne County judge overseeing the case to dismiss those counts.

Coleman’s attorney, Joe White, had called that indictment “false on its face.”

Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater is seeking Coleman’s recusal from every criminal and civil case involving his office.
