Roadway between 2 Vermont communities to remain 4 lanes
RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont Agency of Transportation says business Route 4 from the Rutland Town Office to West Rutland will remain as four lanes.
There had been discussion among the select boards from the town of Rutland and West Rutland about whether to reduce the road to three lanes, two north-southbound lanes on either side with a third turning lane in the middle.
The Rutland Herald reports local officials told the state they wanted the roadway to remain the way it is.
Matt Bogaczyk of the Transportation Agency says the lane reduction idea was floated because traffic studies have shown the three-lane arrangement is safer than what’s in place now.
