Woman Claims Tony Bennett Gave Her Herpes
NEW YORK (AP) _ A woman who says she had a seven-month affair with singer Tony Bennett claims in a $90 million lawsuit that he gave her herpes.
The lawsuit filed Wednesday in state court says Linda Feldman had sex exclusively with Bennett from about May through December 1985, and that she was ″repeatedly exposed to and did in fact contract ... genital herpes″ from him.
The suit seeks damages for serious and potentially permanent bodily injury and emotional distress.
Elliott Hoffman, Bennett’s lawyer, said he had not seen the court papers, and added, ″I have heard that she had a complaint. I got a call from a lawyer a month or so ago. ... She was unhappy. She felt jilted by Tony, and that was the last I heard of it.″
Ms. Feldman’s lawsuit names Anthony Benedetto, also known as Tony Bennett, as the defendant, and lists as his address the headquarters of Tony Bennett Enterprises, the singer’s business offices.
Dorothy Zeman, an attorney at the firm of Salenger and Sack, lawyers for Ms. Feldman, confirmed that the defendant is the singer.
Bennett sang the hit, ″I Left My Heart in San Francisco.″ He is in Europe now and plans to go to Japan next week, Hoffman said.
