DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — The North Carolina Department of Public Safety says police have captured an inmate who escaped from his work release assignment.

The department said in a Tuesday morning statement that Durham Police and corrections officials arrested 42-year-old Robert Terrell around 2:30 a.m. Investigators say he was driving a car stolen from his mother.

The statement says Terrell left his work release assignment in Durham on Monday evening. Jail records show he was serving a six-and-a-half-year sentence at the Orange County Correctional Facility as a habitual felon. He was set for release in August 2020, but now faces charges of escape and vehicle theft.
