Coal Grove tops Rock Hill 57-32 in sectional

February 13, 2019

JACKSON, Ohio — Coal Grove (19-4) jumped to a 31-15 lead and rolled to a 57-32 triumph over Rock Hill (5-17) in a Division III, Jackson 4 girls high school basketball sectional tournament semifinal game Monday at Jackson High School.

The Hornets advance to the finals at 2:45 p.m. Saturday against South Point, which defeated Southeastern 44-24 Monday, at Jackson.

Addi Dillow led Coal Grove with 16 points. Baylee McKnight chipped in 14.

“The first few minutes we were a little sluggish,” Hornets coach Rick Roach said. “The bus ride up never is enjoyable. Two schools 15 minutes apart drive an hour-and-a half to play one another.”

The Hornets scored 19 in the second quarter and 18 in the third to pull away.

“We were getting good looks but not driving to the basket,” Roach said. “I told our kids that this is the first obstacle in our way to reaching some goals and one of those is a sectional championship. I feel like we’re as good a team as anyone in our sectional or district.”

Rileigh Morris led the Redwomen with 11 points.
