Dancing with the Stars’ all-athlete cast includes Tonya Harding, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Johnny Damon

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Ten times athletes on “Dancing with the Stars” have won the coveted mirror ball trophy, so it was a smart idea by ABC to cast all athletes for the upcoming season.

Ten athletes will compete over the four-week event starting April 30. They include an NBA legend, a disgraced former Olympic figure skater and a former Cleveland Indians player.

They are:

- Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon (with professional dancing partner Jenna Johnson)

- Notre Dame women’s basketball player and title game hero Arike Ogunbowale (with Gleb Savchenko)

- Olympic silver medalist in luge Chris Mazdzer (with Witney Carson)

- Olympic gold medalist snowboarder Jamie Anderson (with Artem Chigvintsev)

- Olympic softball player Jennie Finch Daigle (with Keo Motsepe)

- Red Sox, Yankees and Indians outfielder Johnny Damon (with Emma Slater)

- Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman with Sharna Burgess

- NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (with Lindsay Arnold)

- Olympic figure skater Mirai Nagasu (with Alan Bersten)

- Olympic figure skater and the subject of the film “I, Tonya” Tonya Harding (with Sasha Farber)

If there are any early favorites, it has to be the two younger skaters in Rippon and Nagasu as ice skaters have won the competition four times. Norman figures to have a shot as well as four football players have taken home the mirror ball trophy in the past.

Hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews along with judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba are all returning for the dancing competition’s 26th season. “Dancing with the Stars: Athletes,” premieres on WEWS Channel 5, Monday, April 30 at 8 p.m.
