Letter to the editor: Jones better off ignored

February 19, 2019 GMT

With reference to that colossal humbug, Alex Jones, Mark Twain had something to say that is still worth repeating.

“Power, money, persuasion, supplication, persecution — these can lift at a colossal humbug — push it a little — weaken it a little … but only laughter can smash it to rags and atoms at a blast. Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand.”

The man is a joke. A bad joke. Astonishingly ignorant, hideously insensitive and desperately needy. That he takes himself seriously is truly laughable. I mean, really — can any of us picture this guy doing anything useful? Anything at all? I bet that being a failure is aspirational for him.

And First Amendment issues? Please. This guy would argue with a sign post. Doesn’t mean the court should listen to him, or reporters should keep wasting ink and newsprint.

Let’s let him just fade away, back into the silence of the lonesome and uncaring Texas desert.
