City Man Charged With Escape, Resisting Arrest

May 3, 2019

SCRANTON A city man already wanted on an active arrest warrant for making terroristic threats faces additional charges after attempting to escape police and resisting arrest. Scranton Patrolman James Petrucci was patrolling the area of Shea Place on Tuesday evening when he spotted a vehicle often driven by Freddie Ale Carrion Diaz, 27, 818 Cherry St. After confirming the active warrant, Petrucci approached the vehicle, identified Diaz nearby and ordered him to place his hands behind his back, police said. Diaz fled and Petrucci caught him in the 600 block of Moosic Street. As they struggled, Petrucci struck Diaz in the back with the butt of his stun gun when Diaz refused to comply with repeated commands. Diaz was then handcuffed and arrested, police wrote in a criminal complaint. Diaz suffered a small laceration above his left eye but was treated at Geisinger Community Medical Center and released. He is charged with escape, flight to avoid apprehension and related counts. He is in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail and awaits a preliminary hearing scheduled for 10:45 a.m. Tuesday. — JEFF HORVATH
