Tenneco Gas Names New Chairman
HOUSTON (AP) _ Tenneco Inc. said Thursday that Robert C. Thomas, chairman and chief executive of Tenneco Gas, will retire Feb. 28. He will be succeeded by Stephen Chesebro, the subsidiary’s president and chief operating officer.
Thomas, who turns 65 next month, is credited with shaping Tenneco Gas into one of the nation’s top natural gas pipeline companies. The company has been Tenneco Inc.’s highest earning subsidiary for the last five years.
Thomas joined Tenneco in 1956. In 1983, he was named president of Tenneco Gas, and was promoted to his current position four years ago.
Chesebro, who joined the company 30 years ago, has held his current position since 1990.
Houston-based Tenneco Gas operates the nation’s third-largest pipeline system, shipping about one-sixth of the total U.S. gas consumption last year.
Earnings for the three quarters ending in September rose 17 percent to $291 million.
