Scotland’s Bradbury off to RWC as injury cover for Ritchie

EDINBURGH, Scotland (AP) — Flanker Magnus Bradbury is flying with the Scotland squad to the Rugby World Cup in Japan on Monday as injury cover for Jamie Ritchie.

Ritchie suffered a facial injury on Friday in the 36-9 win over Georgia at Murrayfield, and will remain in Scotland for a specialist assessment.

How that goes will determine whether Ritchie goes to the World Cup, the Scottish Rugby Union said on Sunday.

Ritchie was the most serious of five injury concerns from the game for Scotland, and the other four players will travel.

Lock Ben Toolis and fullback Blair Kinghorn suffered head knocks while No. 8 Blade Thomson and lock Jonny Gray experienced hamstring issues.

Scotland opens its World Cup campaign against Ireland on Sept. 22 in Yokohama.
