Nailon Faces Child Support Charges
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ Charlotte Hornets forward Lee Nailon faces two felony charges in St. Joseph Circuit Court for failing to pay child support.
Nailon, 25, is accused of failing to pay court-ordered child support for a 5-year-old daughter.
``It’s news to me. I just found out about it,″ Nailon said Saturday night in Indianapolis, where the Hornets lost to the Indiana Pacers 99-96 in overtime.
Nailon said he would go to South Bend ``soon″ but refused to comment on the charges against him.
Court documents showed Nailon owed $6,846 as of Nov. 30. He is alleged to have failed to pay $42 a week for the child as ordered in September 1998.
Nailon is expected to earn more than $317,000 this season, the minimum salary for rookies in the NBA. He will need $500 bond to be released from custody if he is arrested on the outstanding warrant.
St. Joseph County Police Capt. Al Metcalf, who is in charge of arrest warrants, said his officers were attempting to make contact with Nailon through a South Bend address provided to them. There is no court date set.
Nailon was a member of South Bend Clay’s 1994 state championship team and played at Texas Christian University. He was a second-round draft pick by the Hornets but did not make the team’s roster. This season, he is averaging 3.3 points.
