Four finalists named for Offensive Player of the Year
Barnwell’s Dallyon Creech and Craig Pender, Ridge Spring-Monetta running back Collier Sullivan and North Augusta quarteback Tanner White are the four finalist for the Aiken Standard Offensive Player of the Year Award.
The winner will be named at the Aiken Standard’s Best of Prep Sports award banquet, which will be held on May 23 at the USC Aiken Convocation Center.
Creech and Pender helped lead the Warhorses to their first state championship appearance in more than 20 years.
Creech, a junior receiver and running back, led his team in both rushing and receiving yardage. He was a big play machine, averaging 21 yards per reception and 7.1 yards per rushing attempt. He accounted for 26 total touchdowns — 15 rushing, 10 receiving and one punt return. He had the third most receiving yards in the area with 701. He ran for 680 yards.
Pender was the guy completing passes to Creech and just about anyone else Barnwell lined up at receiver. He was the area’s most efficient passer, completing 67.5 percent of his passes. He passed for 2,361 yards and 35 touchdowns. Pender passed for two or more touchdowns in 11 of 14 games. Pender also ran for 216 yards and two touchdowns on 43 carries.
Sullivan was the Trojans’ biggest producer on offense. He ran the ball 162 times for 1,336 yards and 17 touchdowns. The junior’s season was filled with big games, including a 268-yard, three-touchdown performance against Estill and two other games in which he scored three rushing touchdowns.
White proved to be a dual threat in leading the Yellow Jackets to the third round of the playoffs. He passed for 1,436 yards and 13 touchdowns. The senior was also the area’s leading rusher with 1,409 yards and 19 touchdowns.
