Ironton woman dies of injuries sustained in Aug. 19 crash
FRANKLIN FURNACE, Ohio — An Ironton woman involved in a crash earlier this month died Sunday at a Huntington hospital, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The Portsmouth post of the highway patrol received a call Aug. 19 of a two-vehicle injury crash on Disterdick Lane near Franklin Furnace.
Kacey M. Crisp, 23, of Ironton, was traveling north on Disterdick Lane in a 2001 Ford Fusion, and Travis J. Stormes, 33, of Ironton, was traveling south on Disterdick Lane on a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle, according to the report. His wife, Samantha L. Stormes, 24, of Ironton, was a passenger on the motorcycle, according to the report.
Crisp was driving left of center in a curve, according to police. Travis Stormes took evasive action but struck the side of the woman’s car, according to the report.
Both Stormes and his wife were taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington for treatment. He had serious, non-life-threatening injuries. His wife, however, had serious life-threatening injuries. She was flown to the Huntington hospital, while he was transported by ambulance.
Samantha Stormes died Sunday as a result of her injuries, according to the report. The Cabell County medical examiner advised the Portsmouth post of the fatality.
Neither Stormes nor his wife were wearing helmets at the time of the crash¸ according to the release.
The crash remains under investigation.
