Middle School Basketball: Big first quarters lead to Heritage sweep
The Heritage Lady Generals jumped out to a big 20-1 lead after the first quarter on Tuesday and went on to a 50-37 victory at Saddle Ridge.
Riley Kokinda had a team-high 11 points for Heritage (7-1 in NGAC). Kortney McKenzie finished with 10 and Colby Murray added nine.
Mykeria Johnson led all scorers with 17 points, while adding five rebounds, three steals and three blocks for the Lady Mustangs. Lexi Baker added six points, three steals and two rebounds, while FanTasja Barber finished with five points, three boards and a steal.
Also contributing for Saddle Ridge (2-6 in NGAC) was Madison Sisemore (4 points, 1 rebound), Samantha Cramer (3 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals) and Carly Spurlock (2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal).
The nightcap saw the Generals take a 27-10 lead at intermission and go on to the 57-24 victory.
Collin Swearingin had a season-high 15 points for Heritage (7-1 in NGAC), while Marcus Fortson added 10 as the Generals moved to 10-2 overall.
Brady Mullaly paced the Mustangs (0-8 in NGAC) with 10 points. Jaiden Smith added nine points on a trio of second half 3-pointers. Teddy Ownby and Braeden Holland finished with four and one, respectively.
