December 2, 2018

COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) — The head of Vermont’s National Guard is leaving his position next year.

WCAX-TV reports that Maj. Gen. Steven Cray will be stepping down in February. Cray has been leading the Vermont National Guard since 2013.

In Vermont, the Legislature appoints the state’s adjutant general.

It’s expected that at least two candidates will lobby for the post.

Cray supported successful efforts to give guard members free tuition to state colleges and universities.
