Week 2 Pro Picks winner: Edward Gondeck

The Herald-Argus Pro Picks contest winner for Week 2 of the National Football League was Edward Gondeck, of La Porte. He was the only person in our contest to get less than two games wrong, going 14-1. He got the Packers-Falcons game wrong. Gondeck, along with every weekly winner, receives $50. Entries appear in The Herald-Argus on Mondays.

Pumpkin Festival 3-on-3 basketball tourney

Westville’s annual Pumpkin Festival 3-on-3 Basketball Tourney will be on Sunday, Oct. 1, at Westville School, located at 207 E. Valparaiso St. It’s a double-elimination tourney for boys and girls in elementary through high school. Registration starts at 7:15 a.m., games start at 8 a.m. New this year is an adult division. Westville Pumpkin Festival 5K run and walk

The 19th annual Pumpkin Festival Run, sponsored by Westville Tri Kappa, will take place on Saturday, Sept. 30. Registration is at 7 a.m., in the Westville High School parking lot with the adult 5K run and walk set to begin at 8 a.m. The kids race will be held at 1 p.m., in Prairie Meadow Park at Birch Field No. 1. Applications may be picked up at area sports clubs and sport shops. Slicers boys tennis reschedules match

La Porte’s boys tennis match versus Knox that was postponed on Sept. 13 will be played on Monday, Sept. 25, at 4:30 p.m. CDT at Knox.

Scarecrow Festival 3-on-3 basketball tourney

The Scarecrow Festival double-elimination, 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be at Wanatah School on Sunday, Sept. 24. Check-in at 8 a.m. Games begin at 8:30 a.m. Trophies awarded to first place for each division. Divisions include grades 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, high school girls, high school boys, and adults. The cost is $80 for a team who registers this week. Registration forms are available at scarecrowfest.org, or call Mrs. Clemons at 219-733-2815, or email aclemons@tritownship.k12.in.us.

Scarecrow Scamper Kids Fun Run

The annual Scarecrow Scamper Kids Fun Run will be on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 9:30 a.m. on Main Street in Wanatah, south of the railroad tracks. Proceeds go to Cass Merrymakers 4-H Club. Race-day registration is $15. The race is for 2 through 9-year-olds. Divisions are by age as of race day. Participants will receive a shirt while supplies last. Registration forms may be obtained at the J-Mart.com and at the J-Mart BP in Wanatah. Shirts and/or shirt sizes are not guaranteed if not pre-registered by Sept. 10. Make checks payable to Cass Merrymakers 4-H Club and drop off at the J-Mart BP in Wanatah, or send to PO BOX 41, Wanatah, IN, 46390.
