Chair of Ohio State trustees resigns, cites personal reasons
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The chairman of Ohio State University’s trustees has resigned after nearly seven years on the board, citing “personal and private issues.”
Michael Gasser resigned Friday in a brief email to fellow trustees and university President Michael Drake. Gasser said being a trustee was an honor but that he could no longer commit the time and energy needed for the role.
A statement from university spokesman Chris Davey expressed appreciation for Gasser’s service, calling him a valuable board member and wishing him well.
His resignation note made no mention of the most recent news to draw national headlines about the school: the report released a week earlier that found a now-deceased team doctor, Richard Strauss, sexually abused at least 177 male students between 1979 and 1997.
