Explosion quickly destroys empty Vermont home on farm
LONDONDERRY, Vt. (AP) — Officials say a large explosion destroyed a Vermont home but luckily no one was inside at the time of the blast.
Caretaker Doug Stevens says Thursday’s blast destroyed the guesthouse at West River Farm in the Londonderry area. WCAX-TV reports Stevens says he had just finished plowing a road when he heard a large boom and saw the house explode into flame.
Londonderry Fire Chief Jeff Duda says he saw a column of smoke from the fire three miles away. Firefighters from around the region rushed to the scene, but the guesthouse is considered a total loss.
Duda says the roof had collapsed and flames were coming out three sides of the house.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation; firefighters say it does not appear suspicious.
