BOYS INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD Cardinals 4x200 relay team takes first place at SCC Invitational
The Greenwich High School boys track team’s appearance at the SCC Invitational at Hillhouse High School in New Haven recently was highlighted by a winning effort of its 4x200 relay team.
The Cardinal began the meet with a win, as their 4x200 relay team of Lance Large, Ian Foster, Hunter Clark and Zane Nye garnered the first-place medal with a time of 1:35.
Greenwich also posted several other top-eight finishes. Alexander Bein placed fifth for the Cardinals in the 3,200 meter-run with a time of 9:57. It marked the first time he broke 10 minutes in the event and was a personal-best time by 10 seconds.
The Cardinals’ sprint medley relay team of Nye, Large, Chris Wint and Thomas Rouffiac placed eighth in 3:51 — also a Class LL qualifying time.
Freshman Zach Jelinek recorded a personal-best time in the 1,000-meter run, finishing with a time of 2:52 to qualify for the FCIAC Championships. Stephen Burke posted a personal-record time of 10:30 in the 3,200-meter run and also qualified for the FCIAC meet with his finish. Aidan Brock clocked in at 4:44.90 in the 1,600-meter event — a personal-best effort, qualifiying him for the Class LL Championships.
Wint placed 11th in the 55-meter run with a time of 6.91, while teammate Anthony Hill was 18th in the hurdles in 8.69 seconds, good for 18th place. Hill cleared 5-8 in the high jump for a take 14th-place finish.
In a recent FCIAC meet at Staples, Thomas Fenaroli won the 3,200-meter run for Greenwich. Adam Sturza
competed in the 50-meter dash, notching a personal-best time of 6.78 seconds to finish seventh. He also placed fifth in the long jump.
In the 300-meter event, William Taki took 5th in 42.81, while GHS teammate Tyler Bacco was sixth in 42.89. David Levine had personal-best performances in the 1,000-meter event (3:05 fourth place) and 1,600 event (ninth) Zach Santoro had a personal-best time of 3:07 in the 1,000 and placed eighth.
