Letter: Reality different from TV show

March 14, 2018

Reality different from TV showFor a man who gained national prominence by pretending to be a strong CEO on a television reality show, President Donald Trump hates confrontation. On TV, Trump was scripted to sit directly across from a job applicant, and announce “You’re fired.” Reality, however, is not a television show. When he dismissed his chief of staff, Reince Priebus; FBI Director James Comey; and now, most recently, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, he did not do so face-to-face.Instead, he employed Twitter, intermediaries and the media to convey the news. It is easier to fire, bully and malign someone if you don’t have to face them.President Harry Truman had a sign on his desk that read, “The Buck Stops Here.” Be assured, Trump does not. Sad.To paraphrase draft-dodging President Trump’s description of U.S. Senator and former P.O.W. John McCain, we don’t like presidents who are wusses. We prefer presidents with courage.John M.
