Man arrested twice, on same day, on shoplifting charges

MILFORD - A New Haven man was arrested twice Saturday for allegedly shoplifting at two Milford businesses.

At around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Milford police went to the Sunglass Hut on the Boston Post Road. The investigation led to the arrest of Charles Stevenson, 44, who is accused of taking $280 items without paying.

At around 3 p.m. that same day came another report of a shoplifting at the Target store.

“The investigation led to the arrest of Stevenson, again, who is accused of taking about $260 items from the store without paying,” Officer Joseph Dempsey said in a release.

He said Stevenson “attempted to avoid apprehension and struggled with police briefly before being placed under arrest.

Stevenson, who lives on Chatham Street in New Haven, was charged with two counts of sixth-degree larceny, second-degree breach of peace and interfering/resisting arrest.

He was held on $2,500 bond.
