Sandwich man arrested on pot possession after driving in ditch
SANDWICH – A Sandwich man was arrested on charges of driving without a license and possession of more than 50 grams of marijuana after a call came in early Monday about his car being in a ditch.
DeKalb County sheriff’s deputies made contact at 1:05 a.m. with Matthew A. Sternberg, 21, of the 1900 block of Rosemary Circle in Sandwich, who was in a car that was in a ditch at Chicago and East Sandwich roads, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. Deputies allege that Sternberg was driving on a suspended license and was in possession of 56.33 grams of marijuana.
Sternberg was arrested Monday and charged with driving on a suspended license and possession of between 30 and 100 grams of cannabis, both Class A misdemeanors.
If convicted, he could face up to 364 days in prison for either charge.
DeKalb County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Andy Sullivan said sheriff’s records don’t show that he’s still in custody.
Sternberg is due back in court 9 a.m. May 14.
