Saints linebacker A.J. Klein nominated for Salute to Service Award
New Orleans Saints linebacker A.J. Klein has been nominated for the NFL’s Salute to Service Award, which annually recognizes “exceptional efforts” by members of the NFL community to support U.S. service members, veterans and their families.
Klein’s great-grandfather served in World War II, his grandfather served in the Air Force and two of his uncles were pilots, along with cousins who also served.
The linebacker has spent time visiting military members both in his time training in Pensacola, Fla. before the 2013 NFL draft and during his four seasons with the Carolina Panthers.
“I think it’s really awesome to be nominated for the award, just because of my family’s history, but I also have a great respect, and I’m thankful for our military,” Klein said.
All 32 teams nominate a member of the franchise for the Salute to Service Award, and the winner will be chosen in January.
