Harvest Green hosts KCAM art reception Sept. 21
Harvest Green is hosting a reception in honor of Contemporary Art Museum Fort Bend artist-in-residence Mark Deleon, 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 21, at the Farmhouse, 3400 Harvest Corner Drive.
The reception will feature classical music by the String Theory Orchestra, light refreshments and a meet-and-greet with the artist whose paintings will be on display at the Harvest Green amenity center through Oct. 20.
“It’s very exciting for us as a community to be able to support local art and artists,” said Shay Shafie, general manager of Harvest Green. “Mark’s work is stunning, and we are happy to be able to provide a temporary home where his work can be admired.”
Based in Houston, Deleon is a self-taught mixed-media artist. His artwork fuses contemporary and traditional techniques influenced by Michelangelo, surrealist painter Salvador Dali and contemporary artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.
“The passion I have is to create what is non-existent and to bring to life what has no life,” said Deleon. “It is my desire to inspire others to do the same.”
KCAM’s annual Artist-in-Residence program is designed to provide professional and up-and-coming artists with opportunities that will help them succeed in their careers. Deleon has been a member of the KCAM Fort Bend team for the past year.
Deleon has already collaborated with Harvest Green, transforming a shed at the on-site Village Farm into a work of art with the help of residents, students from Travis High School - located in Harvest Green - and the George Foundation’s Youth in Philanthropy program in May. The farm-themed design can be seen from Harlem Road.
Harvest Green will be hosting additional KCAM artists throughout the year, pairing each installation with a farm-to-table chef’s dinner centered on the art being displayed.
Tickets will go on sale shortly for an Oct. 20 dinner featuring Deleon’s work.
