3 inmates charged in connection with disturbance at prison
SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (AP) — Three Vermont prison inmates who police say were involved in a unit takeover last month have been charged with assault.
Dakota Gardner, 29, was charged with aggravated assault and assault on an officer at the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield, Vermont State Police said in a press release Monday.
Gardner attacked 53-year-old corrections officer George Neathawk with several improvised weapons on the morning of Nov. 19, officials said, before he was subdued.
Neathawk, who was injured, was taken to a hospital and later released, Valley News reported.
The two other inmates, Arthur Crandall and Logan Wheeler, attacked another inmate around the same time the officer was assaulted, police said.
Crandall, 43, and Wheeler, 32, have both been charged with aggravated assault.
All three inmates are scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 31.
It is unclear whether the men have attorneys to speak on their behalf.
