Kennel on the edge of Newman Grove gets approved by Madison County Commissioners
MADISON - At Tuesday’s Madison County Board of Commissioners meeting the board held a public hearing for Alex and Sheana Banks’ conditional use permit to operate a kennel on property located on the edge of Newman Grove.
Originally the property was denied by the Newman Grove City Council based on zoning regulations because of setback regulations.
Newman Grove Mayor John Wyant said he suggested a compromise to the city council that actually ended up working.
“We went through the motions to exclude that from our jurisdiction. As far as the city council and myself I’m sure 100% of us are for the kennel, but it was because of the footage, the setbacks just didn’t meet it. Otherwise the kennel is very good, the community needs something like that.”
Planning and Zoning Administrator Heather McWhorter listed stipulations for the conditional use permit with one being a valid zoning permit must be obtained, which requires an after-the-fact fee. That means it is subject to five times the original fee.
McWhorter said based on original square footage, the fee for the permit would be about $1,600.
The board approved the conditional use permit by a vote of 3-0.
