Raleigh veteran’s family earns free trip to Pro Bowl
The Raleigh survivors of an Army veteran killed in an accident while serving at Fort Lee, Va., will enjoy a weekend at the NFL Pro Bowl thanks to a grant from the NFL’s Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS).
Teams4taps “creates meaningful opportunities for the surviving families of America’s military fallen by engaging with? ?the ?athletes and teams they cheered for with their hero.”
The grant allows Johana, Jose and Jordan Melber, the surviving wife and children of Army Staff Sgt. Jose Melbert, to connect with other military families, celebrate their heroes and spend time at the Pro Bowl and at Walt Disney World.
The Melbers are one of 20 families invited to Orlando.
“While we cannot take away the pain of the loss, we can all help families make new, happy memories together,” said TAPS Vice President of Sports and Entertainment Diana Hosford.
