Seventh-grader killed in Adirondacks snowmobile accident

LAKE CLEAR, N.Y. (AP) — A 12-year-old girl has died from injuries suffered in a snowmobile accident at her family’s home in the Adirondack Mountains.

State police say Harlie Rascoe, a seventh-grader at Saranac Lake Middle School, was operating a snowmobile in the driveway of her family home in Lake Clear on Saturday with a passenger, 12-year-old Christina Harvey, when the snowmobile struck a pickup truck and caromed into a tree.

Troopers say Rascoe was transported to Adirondack Medical Center and pronounced dead around 5 p.m. Harvey was airlifted to University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont and remains in critical condition.

An autopsy determined that Rascoe died from multiple traumatic injuries. Authorities told The Adirondack Daily Enterprise neither girl was wearing a helmet .
