New apartment complex in Bennington ready for residents
BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) — The first residents are getting ready to move into a new 24-unit apartment complex in Bennington that is hoped will help the community address its shortage of affordable housing.
The Bennington Banner reports that last week officials celebrated the completion of Monument View Apartments, a seven-building complex is located on Hilltop Drive. The first residents are due to move in Aug. 1.
The apartments are owned by Shires Housing in partnership with Housing Vermont.
Kathy Sollien, of Maple Leaf Realty in Bennington, says there’s not enough housing stock in Bennington and what does exist is expensive.
Twenty of the homes are targeted to households with annual incomes ranging from a maximum of just under $31,000 for a one-person household to just under $40,000 for a three-person household.
