Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton is in charge of arrangements.

Marvella entered the Lord’s Kingdom Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, at Avera Creighton Care Centre, surrounded by her family.

Marvella was born to Robert and Myrtle Wheeler on July 14, 1935. Her family lived around the Walnut area and she attended Verdigre schools.

On Aug. 15, 1950, Marvella married the love of her life, Dale Bertschinger. They were blessed with 58 years of marriage. To this union, a daughter, Adella Haineraich, and a son, Dennis Bertschinger, were born. Marvella and Dale spent their life farming, raising and milking cows, chickens, and cow/calf pairs. Dale and Marvella were members of and faithfully attended Zion Lutheran Church.

Marvella had a gift for cooking and baking awesome food. If you went to her house, you never left hungry and she always unselfishly gave treats to many. Her cinnamon rolls were her signature, as many ordered a dozen or two from her. Marvella also had the talent of sewing many projects for her family. She worked at several cafés in Creighton and also helped her daughter in her café in Verdigre.

Dale and Marvella moved to Creighton from their farm five miles north of Creighton in 2004. She continued to work at Blackhorse Inn until her health did not allow it anymore. Marvella always enjoyed her coffee time at what is now 59 Express. She also loved to dance.

Marvella’s life was always her God and family first. She was always with Dale no matter where he went. They enjoyed trips to see family members in other states and attending grandchildren’s school, 4-H and sporting events. She was the ring-leader at all family events and was always very determined to have them at her house. She loved cooking for everyone.

Marvella entered Creighton Care Centre in February 2015, and spent her time there visiting, helping out wherever she could, and getting her nails done. She was truly cared for and developed close relationships with the staff and residents. She loved the sing-a-longs and until just recently could sing every word of the good “oldies.”

Marvella is survived by her daughter, Adella (Larry) Haineraich; son Dennis (Joyce) Bertschinger; grandchildren Paul (Pam) Rudloff, Glenn (Beth) Rudloff, Jason (Sara) Rudloff, Kristi Rohrer, Jeff Bertschinger, Sheri Lanier, Jeremiah (Mary) Bertschinger and Jessica (Austin) Schleusener; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister Dorothea Hines of Verdigre; and many nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Clarence, Jack and Robert; and sisters Laura, Sissy, Leah Mae and Lucille.
