Financial planner accused of stealing $360K from client, 78
GRETNA, La. (AP) — Authorities say a New Orleans-area financial planner has been accused of stealing nearly $360,000 from a 78-year-old client.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office tells NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune that 52-year-old Benjamin Bourgeois was booked on charges including theft, bank fraud and exploitation of the infirm, which involves taking advantage of elderly people, those with disabilities and others.
Capt. Jason Rivarde says investigators believe the Harvey resident used $359,000 the woman gave him last year for investments to pay off his own personal debts and living expenses. The Gretna resident had been Bourgeois’ client for a decade.
CBD Wealth Management in Metairie says in a statement that the company has fired Bourgeois.
Bourgeois was jailed Thursday on a $145,000 bond. It is unclear if he has a lawyer who could comment.
