Opioid Awareness Forum Set In Dupont

April 29, 2019 GMT

DUPONT — Luzerne County Councilman Matthew Vough and the Dupont Neighborhood Crime Watch will present an opioid awareness forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The forum, at the Dupont Veterans of War Post 4090 on Main Street, will feature speakers involved in the fight against opioid addiction and the ongoing opioid crisis. Members of the public are invited to attend and will have the opportunity to ask questions. Speakers will include Luzerne County Judge Michael Vough, county District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis, Magisterial District Judge Alexandra Kokura Kravitz, county drug and alcohol program administrator Steve Ross and Matthew Vough. Drug and alcohol counselors and people in recovery from opioid addiction will also speak at the forum. Matthew Vough vowed last month to make the opioid crisis a main focus of his public service. He has spoken at county council meetings about the devastating effects opioid addiction has had on people he knew growing up, some of whom have died. It is time to focus on success stories of recovery, Matthew Vough said at the March 12 council meeting. “I want to ... save as many lives as possible,” he said. Matthew Vough, who at 26 is the youngest member of county council, said he felt the need to do more as a relatively young person who holds a public position. He and Bob Price, of the Dupont Neighborhood Crime Watch, will co-host the forum. Contact the writer: emark@citizensvoice.com 570-821-2117
