Volunteers sought to place flags at Holy Cross Cemetery veterans graves for Memorial Day

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Volunteers are being sought for the annual decoration for Memorial Day of more than 16,000 veterans’ graves at Holy Cross Cemetery, 14609 Brookpark Road, Brook Park.

Flags will be placed on graves starting at 10 a.m. May 24. A registration table for volunteers will be set up in Section 10, behind the lake near the Brookpark Road entrance to Holy Cross.

It is suggested that volunteers prepare for the weather, and bring bottled water and sunscreen.

The grave decoration is a tradition established more than 60 years ago by John Sterba and Catholic War Veterans Post 579.

Persons interested in volunteering can contact his son, Neil Sterba, at sterba@sbcglobal.net,  or text/call 216-702-7581.
