Three suffer minor injuries in Wednesday 81/91 crash

HUMPHREY – Three people suffered minor injuries in an 11 a.m. two-vehicle collision Wednesday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 81 and Highway 91.

Driver Larry Bird, 76, of Albion, and an adult passenger; and driver Jeffrey Brockhaus, 27, of Humphrey, were transported by rescue personnel to Boone County Health Center and Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office reported Bird was eastbound on Highway 91 at the two-way stay when he turned northbound onto Highway 81 and was struck by a southbound 2011 Malibu driven by Brockhaus.

The sheriff’s office said at the time of the collision, a southbound semi was in the process of turning west onto highway 91, obstructing the view of southbound traffic for the vehicle driven by Bird.

Damages were estimated at approximately $10,000.00 to both vehicles.

Humphrey Fire and Rescue and Creston Rescue responded to the scene of the accident.

Seatbelts were worn by Bird and his occupant but were not used by Brockhaus. Airbags were deployed in both vehicles.

Alcohol is not believe to be a factor in the accident.

Assistance was also provided by the Nebraska Department of Roads, Humphrey Police and Humphrey Fire assisted with accident scene control.

Citations for any traffic violations are pending completion of the investigation.

This accident remains under investigation by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office.
