Fifth Street Bridge Project rising, taking shape
Progress continues on the new Fifth Street Bridge, and drivers need to be aware that an eastbound lane closure over the weekend is needed to remove an old railroad bridge.
The eastbound on-ramp in Yuba City to the Fifth Street Bridge will be closed beginning at 7 p.m. Friday until 7 p.m. on Sunday. Construction crews will be removing the old bridge over the eastbound ramp to make way for work to replace the old two-lane bridge with a four-lane bridge.
The westbound lane of the bridge from Marysville to Yuba City will remain open.
As part of the Fifth Street Bridge Replacement project, the City of Yuba City acquired a portion of the old railway system being removed to allow for the new construction.
In other parts of the project:
• Six of the 27 new Fifth Street Bridge pier foundations have been constructed as of March 1.
• Tree removal, on the Yuba City side, as well as sewer and water line relocation on the Marysville side, have been completed, according to George Barlow with Yuba City.
