Holiday in a Box Shop provides stress-free holiday decorating experience
FAIRFIELD — Growing up in an interfaith household, sisters Jennifer Bebon and Mari Flicker and their three brothers spent lots of holidays gathered at their parents’ house.
But after starting their own families, the parents passed on the holiday-hosting baton. “We said, ‘We really have to up our game here,’” Bebon said, noting that this included making sure the holiday decorations set the right tone.
Picking out the right combination of items to adorn the mantel was not always easy, though, which got Bebon wondering if there were curated options for holiday decorating.
“We live in the age of the curated lifestyle,” she said, noting people can get everything from head-to-toe outfits to ingredients for chef-inspired recipes online. “Most people don’t have time to go from store to store and also the holiday madness has already started.”
Bebon, who works in public relations, was surprised she couldn’t find many options for curated holiday decorations on the internet. “We were like, somebody has to be doing this already,” she said. “We did a lot of research and there was nothing.”
So the sisters, who are from Fairfield, and their friend, Cheryl Engstrom, created the Holiday in a Box Shop. Based in Fairfield, the company sells its six collections — Enchanted Silver, Joy of Birch, Storybook Christmas, Vintage Red & Silver, Seaglass Beach and Modern White & Gold — online.
Each collection has its own color scheme and theme, but all are designed to provide the consumer with interesting, nondenominational decorations, many of which include reindeer, ornaments, votives and garlands.
“We really like the simplistic approach,” Bebon said. “We didn’t want it to be gaudy.”
For those seeking more traditional Christmas items or who want to personalize their collection, the website also features add-on products that can be purchased individually, including an assortment of Santa Claus options. “They can add their creative touch to it by shopping the enhancements we have,” Flicker said.
With its 20 rustic elements in greens and reds, Storybook Christmas is the largest collection. It sells for $295.
Enchanted Silver is the smallest collection, with eight pieces for $220. Prices range from $188 for the Seaglass Beach Collection, to $330 for the Modern White & Gold Collection.
“We looked literally at thousands of treasures,” Bebon said. “We call them treasures because we think they’ll be keepsakes for years to come. We also add a touch of whimsy to every collection.”
“We found pieces we fell in love with,” added Flicker. She said that the trio would like to someday manufacture their own products, as well.
The collection boxes ship for free within three days, Bebon said.
Although they launched last month, just in time for the end-of-year holiday season, Bebon said they plan to create collections for other holidays and seasons, including a spring and Easter theme.
“It’s about trying to give people a stress-free option,” Bebon said.
