Ex-prison Librarian Sentenced For Having Sex With An Inmate
WILKES-BARRE — A former prison librarian at State Correctional Institution Retreat was sentenced Friday to up to 23 months in jail after admitting to having a sexual relationship with an inmate.
Karen Stroup, 45, of Berwick, will be required to serve three to 23 months in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility, and will be eligible for work-release, Luzerne County Judge Michael T. Vough ordered.
Stroup previously pleaded guilty to a single count of institutional sexual assault over sexual encounters with the inmate. Prosecutors said Stroup engaged in sex acts with the inmate in a library closet, in the library and in Stroup’s office.
As part of her sentence, Stroup will be required to register as a sex offender.
