Former Casper city employee admits stealing nearly $20,000
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — A 39-year-old former Casper city employee has pleaded guilty in a Wyoming court to stealing nearly $20,000 in city funds.
KTWO-AM reports that Heather M. Kirkendall entered the guilty plea to a single count of felony theft on Wednesday before District Judge Daniel Forgey.
In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors will recommend that Kirkendall receive a suspended prison sentence of two to four years and three years of probation. If Kirkendall has fully paid restitution before sentencing, the prosecution would recommend a suspended prison sentence of 18 to 36 months.
Charging papers say special agents began investigating on Nov. 15 and met with city supervisors who said that payment “irregularities” had been discovered within the Community Development Division where Kirkendall worked.
