Chicago chef to be in fundraiser

May 20, 2017

Following in the steps of such chefs as Charlie Trotter, Cat Cora, Michael Symon and Marcus Samuelsson, Stephanie Izard will be the next celebrity chef for the annual fundraiser to support the local Blessings in a Backpack program.

She will appear Aug. 15 at Sycamore Hills Golf Club.

Izard, the first woman to win Bravo’s “Top Chef” in 2008, is the executive chef/partner of three Chicago restaurants : Girl & the Goat, Little Goat and Duck Duck Goat. She also has a product line called Goat Goods, consisting of sauces and spices, and is the author of “Girl in the Kitchen,” which was released in 2011.

The Blessings in a Backpack program works to meet the nutritional needs of children by providing weekend meals to students and generating public awareness of child hunger.

Every Friday, students receive a backpack filled with food staples that require little to no preparation. A donation of $80 feeds a child in the program for a school year.

Proceeds from the event support the Fort Wayne chapter of Blessings in a Backpack.

Tickets are $750 and can be reserved by calling 424-9080, 423-2353 or 433-3978. In addition, donations can be made at www.blessings-in.com.
