New Comcast tower to open lobby showcasing unique artworks
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Comcast Technology Center in Philadelphia is set to open its lobby to the public this week, showcasing a new sculpture and artwork for public viewing.
Sculptor Conrad Shawcross and conceptual artist Jenny Holzer designed the two pieces, titled “Exploding Paradigm” and “For Philadelphia 2018,” respectively. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Shawcross’s sculpture fulfills the city Art Commission’s requirement for public art in the new tower.
The Holzer installation was additional art and not required under city regulations. Holzer’s piece features excerpts of poetry from Philadelphia and Pennsylvania poets.
The works were unveiled Wednesday to about 50 people, including Comcast Corp. CEO Brian Roberts.
The 60-story Comcast Technology Center is the tallest building in Philadelphia. The building’s lobby will open to the public at 6 a.m. Thursday.
