Teen Charged in Multistate Sex Ring
DETROIT (AP) _ A teenager has become the second person charged in a multistate prostitution ring that authorities say operated like a cult.
Jamal Rivers, 17, was charged Sunday with one count each of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, third-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, transferring a female for prostitution and pandering.
He was being held on $1 million bail and couldn’t be reached for comment. It wasn’t immediately known if had an attorney.
Last Thursday, Henry Davis, a 32-year-old Chicago man, has pleaded innocent to nine felony counts. Police say he used sexual assault, beatings and threats to keep the women and girls _ many of them runaways or estranged from their families _ under his control.
The ring, involving girls as young as 13, may have been operating since 1995. Investigators said dozens of girls and women might have been forced into prostitution in Detroit, Cleveland and Chicago.
