Local Roundup: Doiron, Morin Record Hat Tricks for Leominster

FITCHBURG -- Kaylee Doiron and Daytona-Rose Morin each notched a hat trick to lead the Leominster High School girls’ lacrosse team to a 12-2 win over host Fitchburg at Nikitas Field on Thursday.

Doiron also recorded three assists, Morin had one assist, and teammate Lauren Caponi recorded two goals and a pair of assists in the victory. Fitchburg’s goals were scored by Diandra Boddie and Megan Duong.

Alizah Raboin scored both goals for Lunenburg, and goalie Haley Wyser made six saves behind great defensive efforts by Lena Spadafore, Libby Walsh and Brenna Wilkins.

Aiden Lee finished with four goals and one assist, and teammate Sam Vanasse recorded a hat trick as Nashoba Regional won its season opener. Rory Boots (2 goals, 4 assists) and Mike Henderson (2 goals, assist) also had terrific games for the Chieftains.

Lunenburg (0-1) senior Donovan Powell scored three goals to reach 200 points for his varsity career. Teammate Declan Fitzpatrick added a goal and two assists. The score was all tied, 5-5, in the fourth quarter, before Tyngsboro pulled away late.

Arianna Constant finished first in the javelin and teammate Trishannah Scott was second in the high jump and triple jump to help lead Leominster in defeat. Placing third for Leominster were Erin Bousquet (mile, 400), Sara Ziegerhofer (shot put, javelin), Cali Dupuis (800-meter run) and Ava McDonald (high jump).

First-place finishes for Leominster were turned in by Joachim Ennoo (long jump, triple jump), Jonathan Polanco (800) and the 4x400-meter relay team of Ivan Polanco, Jake Soulliere, Ennoo and Polanco also was victorious. Also for Leominster, Jonander Vargas took second place in the 100-meter dash and the high jump.

Evans Oduro led the way for a fired up Fitchburg squad on Wednesday, placing first in each of his three events: the long jump (19 feet, 3 inches), triple jump (40-7) and 110-meter hurdles (16.6 seconds). Other first-place finishers for Fitchburg included Devin Deleon (javelin, 128-1), Cam Johnson (100, 11.5), Caleb Smith (400 hurdles, 1:12.1), Latrell Boddie (200, 23.8) and the 4x100-meter relay team of Johnson, Oduro, Boddie and Smith, with a blazing time of 45.7 seconds.

Second-place finishers for the Red Raiders included Neville Yangsi (javelin, 107-9), Jacob Walker (shot put, 32-11) and Boddie (long jump, 18-6). Finishing third were Johnson (high jump, 5-6) and Christian Arduino (400, 60.3).

Senior Michaela Keena led the Falcons in the first half of Thursday’s doubleheader split, going 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Taylor Colvin, of Lancaster, got the win, allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts in the complete-game effort.

The Panthers (9-9) got revenge in the late game, earning a hard-fought win in eight innings.

Junior McKenzie Lambert led Fitchburg State (14-8) in the nightcap defeat, going 2 for 5 with a triple and two RBIs. Mikayla Harnois suffered the loss for the Falcons, yielding six runs -- three earned -- on seven hits with two strikeouts in 7 2-3 innings pitched.
